The Very Reverend Winnie Varghese  The Rev. Winnie Varghese serves as the Dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.  A national leader in the Episcopal Church, the Rev. Varghese is known for her inspired writing, teaching, and preaching.  Winnie served most recently as the rector of St. Luke’s Atlanta, a vibrant, historic parish in downtown Atlanta.   In her 27 years of ordained leadership in the Episcopal Church, Winnie has served in many roles, including as the 13th rector of St. Mark’s in the Bowery in New York City and the Episcopal Chaplain at Columbia University and UCLA.    Winnie is an alumna of Union Theological Seminary in New York City.   Winnie began her ministry as a young adult in the Episcopal Service Corps in Los Angeles, where she was ordained in 2000. She served on its inaugural national board. ESC offers a year of intentional Christian community, service, and discernment of vocation for young adults.   She has served as a deputy and voting secretary of the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, as an elected member of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, and serves on the Executive Council Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility.   She is a founding board member and champion of the New York Episcopal Federal Credit Union, a ministry that concretely connects the extraordinary gifts of New York Episcopalians with the mission of serving and empowering the most vulnerable in our communities.
